Contributions by persons are limited to a total of $600 per election (see below). There is no limit on contributions by political action committees. Texas law prohibits corporations and labor organizations from making political contributions to candidates. Contributions from foreign nationals are also prohibited by law.
Texas law requires that we collect and report name, address, occupation and employer of contributors for contributions in excess of $50 per reporting period (now until March 31, 2016). For contributions of $50 or less in a reporting period, your information will not be reported on campaign finance reports.
Donations are not deductible as charitable donations for federal income tax purposes.
- City of Garland Code of Ordinances, Code of Ethics, Section 10.52 (J) provides that "[a] candidate for the office of . . . City Council shall not accept any political contribution or contributions from any person, other than the candidate or a political action committee, in any one election of more than $600.00."
